Consistency in Billboard

In the billobard section on the Restoration Harware site, there is consistency in both the layout, and in the photography. Here, you can see that the layout would include a large picture with a text overlay pertaining to what is shown. In a few of the other sections, a single photo is shown, but the size of the billboard stays the same. Also, the photo quality, with its warm soft glow lets visitors to the site understand they have not navigated away from the site, without looking at the URL. Overall, although the colors of the photos change from page to page depending on the subject, all photos contained in one page match eachother in value as well as color. Like the different rooms in the stores themselves, the pages carry over this same theme.

There is great consistency in the navigation setup. From one page to the next, there is no true change in the navigation, except for the section being darkened which is currently being viewed, and a change in text for the area being visited as pictured to the right here. Other than that, the color stays the same. It lets a visitor feel that all the is changing is the main internal content, instead of the entire page it self.

Shopping Features

while shopping around on this website, there are many products shown which may only be purchased through the catalog or online. Like the item shown to the left here, a small photo may not be sufficient, either in a catalog or online. What is a nice feature however is the zoom option. Shoppers may look at the fine details included in items they will not get to see in person until purchased and shipped. What else is nice about this feature is it opens up in a small window inside of the main page. That way, other information about the item is still visible, and gives a sense of looking at an item while "still in the store". It is a small detail, but it gives this site a very user friendly interactivity that also says quality at the same time.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoy this site. For anyone who has every been to one of these stores, the feeling and look of the site is almost a perfect match. It is very user friendly, and does not make me feel unsafe about purchasing an item from them online. You, at no time, feel like you might have clicked away from the page when visiting the different areas listed. Even when visiting the sister store, do you feel like you have merely walked into a different room of the same store.
